Clinics: All
Vanessa is a registered massage therapist. She graduated from Mount Royal University for massage therapy and also has a degree in Kinesiology and Physical Education from Wilfrid Laurier University. Vanessa has worked in a clinical environment, specializing in therapeutic and deep tissue massage. She has traveled with mountain bike races, worked with the Banff rugby team, and massaged many cross country and alpine ski athletes. Vanessa also specializes in prenatal massage (pregnancy massage).

Style

Deep Tissue, Therapeutic

What do you do when you aren’t massaging?
Mountain Biking, Kiteboarding and Skiing.

What made you decide to become a massage therapist?
During my Kinesiology degree I volunteered at a Physiotherapy clinic as a Physiotherapy Assistant. I got to know the massage therapist at the clinic and realized that that was the next step in my education. I wanted to work with athletes and injuries and found that massage fulfilled my interest in problem solving. Every hour of my work day changes as the client changes, and so does the need for me to figure out each client and their specific needs.

A rocky mountain transplant from Ontario since 2009, I feel very lucky to call the Bow Valley home. Like most mountain town locals, my happy place is on a trail, accompanied by friends. To me, getting to push yourself outside is the pinnacle of “wellness,” which is what directed me to a career in massage therapy.

After graduating from Vicars School of Massage therapy in 2016, I built a practice in Banff and love working with locals. With a deep appreciation for massage, my curiosity to learn more continued to grow. I wanted to further my roots in the profession by becoming an educator. I spent many happy years working in curriculum development, training entry-to-practice massage therapists and have worked as a surveyor for educational programs across Canada.

What are you up to when you're not working?
Mountain biking, snowboarding, and travelling.

Dr. Jessica Whelan

Naturopath

Clinics: Banff & Canmore Bow Valley Trail
Dr. Whelan completed her degree in Nutritional Science at the University of Maryland on a diving scholarship before earning her Doctorate from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto. She completed clinical training in Toronto at two clinics, including a low-income centre, and a clinical internship in Zhongfang, China focused on Traditional Chinese Medicine.

What clients can expect during their treatments with you?
A guided, collaborative approach focused on understanding your needs, setting goals, and creating a personalized plan that evolves with you over time.

What do you do for fun?
Hiking new trails, befriending every dog I see, and trying not to get too competitive over Scrabble.

What made you decide to become a Naturopathic Doctor?
As a child, I always wanted to be a doctor. I had a strong interest in math, science, and the human body that naturally led me toward medicine, and over time, I became increasingly inspired by the body’s ability to heal.
Naturopathic medicine felt like a natural fit ,combining scientific knowledge with holistic care, and focusing on supporting the body’s innate healing ability while treating the whole person.

What made you decide to become a massage therapist?
Growing up as a downhill ski racer I was always fascinated with the human body; as an athlete you always work on all of the aspects of training including strength, movement, recovery and injury prevention and massage therapy was always very beneficial. Working as a strength and injury prevention coach I wanted to help my clients in all aspects as well, so I became a fascial stretch therapist, but I wanted to know more… so my passion for knowledge and problem solving naturally led me to massage therapy.

RMT

Clinics: Banff
Gemma has called the Bow Valley home since completing her RMT program at Mount Royal University in 2022. She works with a wide range of local and visiting clients, supporting relief from activity-related pain and everyday physical stress while helping them build a deeper understanding of their bodies.

Style of Massage
An intuitive, client-focused approach using therapeutic and relaxation techniques, deeper tissue work, and dynamic cupping to support individual treatment goals.

What do you do for fun?
Yoga, hiking, biking, backcountry camping, hammocking by the river, and spending time near any body of water. In winter, she enjoys skiing and playing hockey.

What made you decide to become a massage therapist?
My first experience with massage therapy came at a time in my life when I didn’t even know it needed it. I had moved out west on my own and was working two jobs and babysitting on the side. One of the moms, who is now a dear friend and also an RMT, offered to massage me in exchange for looking after her kids. That was a game changer for my outlook on self care. And also helped me to see that I could also help others in the same way.

Living here and meeting so many inspiring practitioners encouraged me to pursue Massage Therapy, and I’m excited to grow within this field and team.

Style
I describe my style as a blend of therapeutic and relaxation techniques, and I look forward to expanding my skills as I continue my training to support each client’s individual needs.

What do you do for fun?

Clinics: Canmore Bow Valley Trail
Serge’s approach to massage is rooted in precision, patience, and presence. His treatments are firm, slow, and intentional, allowing the nervous system to down-regulate and the tissue to change at a deeper level. He works with trigger point therapy, active cupping, and myofascial release to create lasting physical change, followed by stretching to help the body integrate the work.

His work is especially suited for athletes, outdoor enthusiasts, and anyone looking for long-term results rather than quick fixes.

Style of Massage
Trigger point therapy, myofascial release, cupping, and contract/relax stretching.

What do you do for fun?
Yoga, backcountry skiing, and any form of “type 2 fun” in the mountains.

What made you decide to become a massage therapist?
As a former high-level biathlete, I experienced overuse injuries and connective tissue issues firsthand. Massage played a key role in my recovery and understanding of my body, and I wanted to give that same support back to others.

What do you do for fun?
Outside the clinic, I stay active year-round. In the winter, you’ll find me on the ski slopes, either free skiing or working as a ski instructor. In the summer, I enjoy hiking with friends and swimming laps in the pool (less than 80 laps isn’t worth it!).

Outside the clinic, I stay active year-round. In the winter, you’ll find me on the ski slopes, either free skiing or working as a ski instructor. In the summer, I enjoy hiking with friends and swimming laps in the pool (less than 80 laps isn’t worth it!).

What made you decide to become a massage therapist?
I’m passionate about helping people feel their best, and as someone who leads an active lifestyle myself, I understand firsthand how beneficial recovery-focused massage can be.journeys.

Clinics: Banff
I’m a Registered Massage Therapist who believes that slowing down can be one of the most powerful tools for healing. My treatments use slow, purposeful techniques to calm the nervous system, ease pain and release tension. Whether you’re dealing with everyday stress, sore muscles, or simply need time to reset, my goal is to create a comfortable space where you can relax, reconnect with your body, and leave feeling lighter than when you came in.

Style
Slow, full, intentional, attention to detail.

What do you do for fun?
When I'm not massaging, I walk my dog, play soccer, and relax in a hammock.

What made you decide to become a massage therapist?
My mother used to always ask for back massages when I was little so we would time each other. Then one day, when I was 12 years old, she told me people do this for a living!
