BACK AT IT’S ATHLETE AMBASSADOR Erin Tetley
TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOU:
I’m originally from Thunder Bay, Ontario. I made the big move out to Banff when I was 18 and never left! I’ve been working with Pursuit, previously known as Brewster Travel Canada for 11 years now, I started with them when I first got to town. I’m an outdoor enthusiast and a big fan of trail running. Throughout my life I was over weight, I always put people first and never focused on myself or self love. I said “never let physical instability stop you from doing what you love”. I put myself out there and never gave up. I changed up my eating habits – focusing on a planet based, refined sugar free, gluten free, alcohol free diet and started running. It’s been nearly 2 years and I’ve lost over 120 pounds!
OTHER PASSIONS OTHER THAN YOUR SPORT?
I’m a very multi sport type of person. These mountains provide so much opportunity and adventure, it’s hard to only do one sport. During the winter I love getting out into the backcountry on my splitboard. In resort I’m mostly on my snowboard but I like to switch it up and throw on my skis every now and then. During the summer I love climbing, bagging peaks from my never ending list. I enjoy getting out on the bike, either my downhill or road. On relaxing days you can find me slacklining in the park. I live for the outdoors which is why I love living in this beautiful slice of paradise.
WHAT DOES YOUR TYPICAL DAY LOOK LIKE?
I work full time so my days are structured. I’m training for an upcoming goal this summer so I always make time to get outside and put in the KM’s whether it’s in my runners or on my bike.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE TRAIL IN THE BOW VALLEY?
This is a tough one… I’d say if I had to choose it would be Tunnel Mountain. It’s a great way to train, you get the vertical, you get the flats and it’s a great pre/post work summit.
3 THINGS THAT MOST PEOPLE MAY NOT KNOW:
I used to ski race competitively as a kid (6-13) I was on the Northwestern Ontario Alpine Ski Team. I’m left handed. I own a pie company called Flaked Pies
ONE SPORT THAT YOU WISHED YOU WERE GOOD AT:
Skiing in powder.
ONE GOAL YOU WOULD LIKE TO ACCOMPLISH THIS YEAR?
I’m training to run the Canmore Quad for my 30th birthday in July.
WHICH OF YOUR SCARS HAS THE BEST STORY BEHIND IT?
My knees sometimes get banged up during the summer season from wipe outs. Watch out for roots and rocks, the variable terrain while trail running makes it a dangerous sport when you’re going fast. It’s easy to wipe out! Focus is key and watching your footing is mandatory!
