Lily
Massage Therapist, RMT
Originally from Ex-Yugoslavia, Lily spent the first two decades of her life living between Canada, Croatia and Germany. She felt called to take a “gap year” post high-school graduation, however that turned into a decade of living and travelling across various countries around the globe. Lily decided it was time to call Canmore home in 2019. After pursuing a few different careers as a means to support her travels, she found her true passion in massage therapy. Lily is a 2023 honors graduate of the Alberta College Of Massage Therapy in Calgary.
What is your style of massage?
For Lily, it is essential to combine therapeutic and relaxation techniques, as these types of massage exist on a continuum. When using more precise and deep tissue techniques, Lily strives to achieve both local therapeutic effects as well as a general sense of relaxation. Lily believes that the two approaches to massage are not two opposite types of massage and should always happen in conjunction. She also strives to work with her clients nervous system and educate them on the importance it plays in regulating muscle tone and increasing overall feelings of relaxation. Lily also incorporates cupping, aromatherapy and energy work into her sessions.
What do you do when you aren’t massaging?
Summer weekends are full of camping and hiking in various locations throughout the Rockies, while on weekdays you’ll find Lily on local trails with her Duck Toller Taika. Lily dedicates the cooler months of the year to CrossFit, as well as more travel to countries she hasn’t explored yet.
What made you decide to become a massage therapist?
Lily received her first therapeutic massage from Thea at Back At It in 2019, as she was suffering from severe TMJ disorder caused by working a stressful job at the time.
The instant and long lasting relief she was able to receive, left Lily amazed at the knowledge and skills that clinical massage therapists were equipped with.
Fast forward to 2021 where the pandemic led to the realization that a career change was much needed in order to feel more aligned with who she was becoming as a person. Lily felt instantly called to massage therapy as a profession. Through some research and encouragement from friends and family, within 2 weeks she quit her job and enrolled into the program and can confidently say that this was one of the best decisions of her life!
