Zoe
ACUPUNCTURIST
Zoe moved to Calgary from Ontario at the age of 16, where she quickly found her love of movement in the mountains. After falling in love with hiking, she quickly found climbing, which inspired her to begin her degree in Human Kinetics at the University of British Columbia- Okanagan campus. In University, Zoe solidified her love for anatomy, physiology and pathology, but always came back to feeling like a piece was missing. After seeking out treatment for her own injuries, Zoe found Acupuncture, a treatment that addressed dis-ease by treating the whole body and getting to the root cause. She found the missing piece. Within months of beginning her own treatment she had applied to Pacific Rim College in Victoria, BC to complete her Diploma of Acupuncture. Here she spent 3 years continuing her education of biomedical sciences and Traditional Chinese Medicine foundations, diagnostics and therapeutic techniques. She took additional courses to emphasize orthopedic acupuncture, myofascial needling, muscle testing and physical examination techniques. Zoe has a passion for learning and is always continuing her education outside of the clinic space.
How would you describe your Style of Acupuncture?
Zoe values a detailed intake to get to the root cause of the issue, from there she uses various TCM modalities (acupuncture, cupping, tui na/massage) to address the complaint. She places an emphasis on giving her patients tools and understanding of their bodies to prevent future injury and keep the patient involved in their own recovery.
What do you do when you aren’t practicing Acupuncture?
Zoe loves backcountry hiking, trail running, bouldering, mountain biking and skiing. When the sun goes down you will find me listening to audiobooks or nose deep in a text book.
What made you decide to become a therapist?
Zoe only began learning about health and wellness in her young adult life, and amongst pursuing her interest in biomedicine, she found immense passion in providing her community with treatments and tools to enhance their own lives. Chinese Medicine was a modality that fit Zoe’s “tool box” image of health, there is no “one cause” for an illness; as we are influenced by our food, movement, environment and relations; acupuncture offers many tools in addressing the many factors of health.
