Finding my way back
Back At It Athlete Ambassador Jordan Bryden:
As an athlete, I have experienced the ups and downs of competition for the majority of my life. A few years back, I sustained a serious injury during a race that knocked me off my game. I crashed my TT bike while racing in Patagonia, going over 50 kph, and never fully recovered. Lower back pain plagued me for years and seriously hindered my running speed. However, this past year, thanks to consistent massage therapy from Back at It, I have seen a return to fitness that I sometimes questioned was possible.
By July of 2022, I was feeling much more like myself again. I even managed to finish second in the Canadaman Xtri, earning a spot in the Xtri World Championships in Norway later this year. For those unfamiliar with these events, they are some of the toughest triathlons out there, with grueling conditions and a finish line that’s literally on top of a mountain. I also finished fourth in the Ironman Wisconsin, marking my first top-five finish in a full-distance Ironman race.
But as many pro athletes know, new obstacles always seem to arise. In October of last year, while mountain biking on the Locke Trail in Canmore, I took a rather small fall on my mountain bike and herniated a disc, bringing my race season to an abrupt end. However, with a combination of strength work, massage therapy, and careful attention to detail, I have recovered well and am ready to tackle my next challenge. Canmore is a perfect environment for triathletes! I’m a big fan of trail running, cruising along the 1A highway, and swimming in the gorgeous mountain lakes around here to prepare for my first race of the season, which will be the inaugural Belgian Waffle Ride on Vancouver Island. I’ve also qualified to once again race at the Ultraman World Championships in November. But before then, I’ve got three Ironman events and a variety of bike races to tackle.
I owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to Back at It Sports and Wellness for helping me become a better athlete. Their services are second to none, and I would highly recommend them to anyone looking to improve their performance or recover from an injury. With their continued support, I am confident that I will be able to achieve all of my goals this season and beyond! – Jordan Bryden
