Update on Kat:

I am currently in my fourth year of postgraduate studies at the Sutherland-Chan School of Osteopathy in Vancouver. While years one and two were focused on bones, years three and four have focused on treating organs. In the last year and a half I have taken courses on the stomach, liver, kidneys, intestines, lungs and uterus. Upcoming courses for this year are bladder, heart and pediatrics. Next year is the fifth and final year of school, which is primarily focused on clinical hours and a research project.
Learning osteopathy has totally shifted my perspective on anatomy and treatment. We live in a culture that is laser-focused on separating things into categories, but osteopathy is inherently focused on relationships, and in order to learn osteopathy, one has to learn to look at people through a lens of absolute interconnectedness. This is, in my opinion, is what makes osteopathy so unique and so effective. While I am still working as a massage therapist, I can incorporate techniques learned in my postgraduate studies that fall within the scope of practice of massage therapy.
