Festifvus for the Rest of Us
December 18, 1997 a Seinfeld episode introduced North America to a new holiday Festivus. George Kastanza’s father Frank Kastanza invented his own holiday. No religious connection and includes everyone. No tree but a pole, no gifts except giving things that you know the person receiving won’t appreciate, ie used chapstick
Airing of grievances: tell your family all of the ways that they have disappointed you over the year.
Feats of Strength: the head of the family is wrestled to the floor and pinned
The Pole: no tree, but a pole. Requires no decoration because Frank “finds tinsel distracting”.
For $30 you can buy a Festivus pole for Christmas SERIOUSLY check it out:
However, when I googled festivuspole.com the website does not exist any more. Bummer.
So Happy Festivus to you!
