Snow = Hip Flexor Workout
With the snow accumulating, and hopefully it keeps getting deeper, we stat using our hipflexors more.
First we have ski touring: Ever notice when your back country skiing that the first thing to fatigue is your hip flexors? Well those muscles have to work hard to haul you ass up the slope, especially if you are breaking trail. check out this blog about skinning http://straightchuter.com/tag/skinning/
Even worse for the hip flexors is post holing through the snow, with your skis on your pack or snowboarders without a split board or snowshoes.
Trail running in the snow, is kind of like running in the sand, uneven ground, sinking, and higher steps. Again a little more effort for your hip flexors.
Snow shoeing same thing.
The hip flexors are a group of muscles that obviously flex the hip.
This picture shows 3 of the hip flexors group. Blue = Psoas Red = Iliacus Green = Rectus Femoris
Other muscles that contribute to hip flexion are: sartorius, tensor fasciae latae, pectineus, adductor longus, adductor brevis, gracilis.
Stretching the Hip Flexors
A few creepy comments in this video, but ignore them and pay attention to what he says about the psoas.
